| Golfing-skiing being promoted to boost tourism: Dilawar | | |
SRINAGAR, JUNE 05 - Gulmarg, the meadow of flowers, is fast becoming favourite destination of skiers world over. About 10000 skiers are expected to visit Kashmir valley during the next winter as compared to 5000 skiers last winter owing to world's best and enchanting ski slopes in breathtaking Gulmarg valley. This was stated by Minister for Tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir while interacting with a group of golfers from Patna, Bihar who have come to enjoy golfing at the Royal Springs Golf Course, in the foothills of Zabarwan hills. The Bihar golfers played a match with the golfers of J&K state the other day. The Minister said that Kashmir provides a varied range of tourist attraction including pilgrim tourism, heritage tourism adventure tourism, skiing, snow sports and golfing. He said government endeavours to exploit full potential of golf which has emerged as a big tourist attraction now a days. For the purpose, he said, a circuit of golf courses is being developed in Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Srinagar and Jammu. The Minister also called for private sector participation in building the required tourist infrastructure in the state for attracting tourists in large numbers from all over the world. A power point presentation on destination Ladakh was also made by the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir on the occasion. The golfers from Patna while expressing their experience in Kashmir expressed full satisfaction over the infrastructure existing in the valley, adding that they would bring golfers in large numbers from other parts of the country to Kashmir for playing golf. Director Tourism Kashmir Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Chief Executive Officer Development Authority Mr. Farooq Ahmad Lone and concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
