SRINAGAR, JUNE 05 -Sangeet Natak Academy Award winner youngest classical musician Abhay Rustum Sopori has dedicated the coveted Ustad Bismillah Khan Youva Puraskar Conferred to him by the SNA for the year 2006, to Jammu and Kashmir State. Abhay Sopori said that love he possesses for the culture, heritage and people of the state has always inspired him to march ahead. "This has inspired me to discover new hights and achieve cherished goals in the field". Talking to media persons here today, Abhay Rustum Sopori announced that Sa Pa Ma academy funded by renowned Sufiyana garana of Sopore of which he is torch bearer said that Sopori family has vowed to take rich cultural treasure of Kashmir to international market and expand the orbit of states admirable classical sangeet and sufiyana. The grand son of Pt. Shamboo Nath Sopori and son of Pandit Bajan Sopori, young Santoor Maestro Abhay has made new innovations in Santoor by introducing open String concept, develop the bean Ang and new technique for enhanced sustain. He also invented designed and introduced a new 30 stringed instruments in the world of music and named Sur Santoor. Besides being first and the youngest musician to receive Ustad Bismillah Khan Youva Purskar for the year 2006, he has also received "Young's India Award 2006 and Kalawant Samman 2006 for his excellence in music and also Santoor player. Giving details of Sa Ma Pa Academy's efforts to nurture young talent in music and Gayaki from Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Abhay said that his academy is ready to provide every sort of help to the budding musicians, however, he stressed that hardworking and patience to learn lies with the learners. "You can not become a star by releasing one or two albums. You have to learn a lot and concentrate with devotion and dedication towards the fine art". He said I want to work to create a cultural revival making J&K global capital of peaceful, joy giving and scintillating cultural centre. He expressed gratitude to media and people for extending their cooperation to Sa Ma Pa academy in its efforts to serve the people the state. He said Sa Pa Ma academy has made it routine feature to organize classical and other concerts both in Kashmir and Jammu to provide a common platform for senior and junior artists to exhibit their talent and get exposure. He said that earlier festivals of this nature held in Srinagar and Jammu have been highly appreciated by the people in general and art lovers in particular. Saying that Sa Ma Pa is not just an academy but movement representing country and projecting J&K state's music, culture and heritage, he said it would continue to strive to bring laurels to state. He also gave details of some concerts Sa Ma Pa has organized for the earthquake sufferers, cancer patients and other needy people adding that the academy is also involved in social activities. In reply to a question Abhay said that classical sangeet in India has future in its class population. He, however, suggested that while playing classical musics artists should keep in mind the type of audience to whom they are presenting the music. He said lok and folk sangeet of J&K alongwith Sufiyana Chakri, Pad and Rouf should be presented on the original musical instruments without deviating from the basic musical essence of this great art.
