| ARMY RELIEF OPERATIONS DURING LADAKH FLOOD | | | Udhampur, Aug 09, 2006 Heavy torrential rains, in Ladakh have thrown life completely out of gear in the region. The Army swung into action immediately. Army units of 14 Corps stationed in Leh, Kargil, Batalik, Nubra valley and Base Camp are actively involved in after floods relief operation. Approx 2000 people have been evacuated and shifted to tents pitched by Army in Leh division in areas of Angling, Phayang and Chuchuit.
Army assistance has been extended to the villagers in hinterland of Dikshni, Hunder, Khalsar, Warshi, Darcaik, Ganasok, Archinathang, Batalik, Biamah and Slimo by providing food and medical aid to as many as 3000 people.With large number of arterial communication broken, Army personnel are going on foot with load of food, water and medical supply and reaching these villagers to help them in retrieving whatever is left including their valuables and restoration of communications.
The Army columns have successfully diverted and channelised the flood water to prevent further flooding of villages. Villagers are being moved to safer places. Border Road Organisation personnel are also actively involved in restoring communication to the affected regions of Ladakh.
