| Inter-school debate held at Kothibagh school | | Inculcate scientific temperament among students: Peerzada | |
Srinagar, June 06 - To develop a scientific society by way of inculcating scientific temperament among student community, debates, symposia and quiz competitions need to be organized in educational institutions of the state. This was stated by Minister for Education, Science and Technology Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed while addressing inter-school debate on "Has science relieved mankind of superstitions" at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh today. The debate was organized by the department of Science and Technology and ten schools of Srinagar district participated. Mr. Sayeed said that the objective to organize such a debate should be to involve student community in a dialogue on the topic having tremendous relevance in day to day life, adding that this would ensure placement of the future of the state in safe hands having scientific temperament instead of belief in superstitions. Appreciating the efforts of Science and Technology Department, Mr Sayeed said that the department is engaged in channelizing the talent of students in right direction in spite of several challenges confronting them. Students participating in the debate spoke about the fact that human mind has been always under the impact of prejudice of superstitions, myths, astrology, numerology etc and stressed for giving up such feelings and thoughts to live a peaceful and normal life. Later, the Minister awarded the toppers of the debate adjudged by a panel of jury on the occasion. They include Suhail Khaliq, Adnan Adil, Iffat Majidm, Uffaq Zahira, Sibtain Manzoor and Owais Ashraf. Among others, the debate was attended by Head of the Zoology department Kashmir University Prof. M. Z. Chisti, Asstt. Professor, Government Dental College S. Kour, Additional Director, Science and Technology Mr. V. K. Koul, Principal GGHSS Kothibagh Prof. Shahzada Mir and Joint Director Science and Technology Mr. Altaf Ahmad.
