| APHC to support Hizb's plan of opening conditional dialogue channels with India | | |
Srinagar,August 9 :-The APHC leadership "supports" Hizbul Mujahideen outfit's willigness to have a "conditional" dialogue with the Government of India for the settlement of the Kashmir issue. A senior APHC leader,Molvi Abbas Ansari, said that "we have been in favour of a meaningful dialogue. If Hizbul Mujahideen leadership is inclined to open the dialogue channels with India we shall follow it." "Hamey to aam khaney sey garz hein pead ginney sey nahin,"the Molvi said adding that "dialogue is the only way to resolve the dispute and restore peace in the Indian subcontinent." He said "during our talks with the Indian leadership we have been demanding end to Army operations, demilitarisation, end to custodial killings, release of all detained leaders and so far there has been no positive response from the Government of India."He said "if Hizbul Mujahideen leadership is able to secure acceptance of these demands we shall follow it.Even if Syed Ali Shah Geelani agreed to enter into talks with the Government of India we will support him." Molvi Ansari, however, was critical of the way the UPA Government handled the Kashmir affairs. He said that when the BJP led NDA was in power in the centre both the then Prime Minister,Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee and his deputy,Mr L.K.Advani,were keen to see the ground situation in Kashmir registering improvement. The two leaders,he added, were serious in continuing the talks "with us" but since the Congress led UPA assumed power in Delhi there has been a lot of confusion among the congress leaders in the centre. He reiterated that without ensuring improvement in the security scenario in Kashmir dialogue, bilateral or trilateral, cannot prove a meaningful exercise and for this the Government should create a conducive atmosphere by stopping army operations, search operations, custodial killings, and by setting free those languishing in jails. The Molvi stated that the ruling coalition in the centre and in Jammu and Kashmir had been plagued by inner contradictions and conflicts with the result they have failed to carry on "the dialogue process with us to some logical conclusion." |
