| WHO'S NEXT ....... WHEELS OF STATE MACHINERY JAMMED AFTER HIGH PROFILE ARREST | | | Srinagar,June 30 :- The sex scam in which the CBI has arrested about 16 people, including former ministers, bureaucrats and police officials, has gripped senior politicians, former ministers, legislators, bureaucrats and police officers, besides businessmen, with panic. In fact the normal life stands paralysed with people, politicians and bureaucrats glued to radio and television news channels for getting aware on whom the CBI axe has fallen. Whether in the civil secretariat or in other Government and public sector offices employees and senior officers are seen discussing the sex scam and its impact on the social and political fabric of Kashmir. During the time no fresh news bulletins are available on who and who had been arrested rumour mills keep people busy.Names of ministers, legislators and bureaucrats figure in the list of rumour mongers who make people believe,at least for a the time being, that such and such person is also involved. While relatives of those already in CBI net and those who fear the axe seem to be a worried lot a joke doing round in the valley is that what militants could not achieve Sabeena, kingpin of the sex racket, has achieved within weeks by seeing VIPs in police or judicial custody. If one visits the secretariat or any other Government department one feels frustrated because the employees are not prepared to settle their cases but are seen engaged in long drawn discussion on the sex scam and the dangerous fallout on the society in Kashmir. What is interesting is the way those who have missed an opportunity of visiting Sabeena's brothel try to rationalise their frustration by shouting loud against those who have been arrested by the CBI. Many a wives were seen visiting shrines for offering prayers after they felt assured that their husbands were not involved in the scam. And the painful side of the story is that children of legislators, former ministers and senior bureaucrats who enjoyed full respect from their teachers, friends and relations were being frown upon as their parents have been arrested by the CBI on charge of their involvement in the sex scam. |
