| JAMMU FACES INTENSE HEAT WAVE | | | Jammu, June 08 With mercury hovering around 43-44 degree Celsius for last 48 hours in Jammu, the city residents are facing tough times under the blaze of the sun. After crossing 42 degree mark on Thursday the mercury crossed 43 degree mark on Friday making life miserable for those who had no choice but to face the continuous glare of the sun. According to met department data, the mercury touched 43.6 degree Celsius four degree above normal. But the blistering heat wave conditions has come a blessing in disguise for owners of ice cream parlours, ice cream vendors as majority of them are doing brisk business along with their counterparts selling fresh fruit juices, watermelons, and other ice products across the city. A random survey conducted by the team of reporters revealed that in the last couple of days the demand for ice, ice cream and other items which help in cooling off has shot up across Jammu city. On the other hand, hot surface winds coupled with frequent power breakdowns in the afternoon added to the woes of people already reeling under intense heat wave. Most of the city landmarks wore a deserted look for the second day in succession during the day time. In the evening most of the people thronged Rajinder park on canal road, Bagh-E-Bahu and other places to chill off.(
