| Natrang goes international, starts English theatre | | |
Jammu | June 8 In a highly significant development, The Children's Theatre Company, Broadway, Wimbledon, London has offered to support Natrang's endeavors in children's theatre. Recognizing the creative contribution of Natrang in children theatre the CTC will provide new scripts and the methodology being evolved by CTC, London. Briefing media persons here today Director Natrang revealed that Children's weekend club will now spread its wings towards the world of English theatre. He announced that in the current year's Summer Camp an English play 'Beauty is a Beast' written by a Mexico (USA) based children's playwright will be prepared. With this full length English production, a new era of English theatre will make its humble beginning at Natrang.. Referring about the objective behind starting of English theatre, Balwant Thakur further said that arts need to respond to the fast changing world and keeping in view the growing demand of improvement of communication skills, personality development, and confidence building, Natrang has to initiate certain need based projects and its international collaboration is seen as one of the most significant development in its 25th year of existence, as this will open new avenues for the institutions and groups may start new projects like exchange of performances with other countries. Natrang's approach in Children's theatre is entirely different and through its highly creative plays, the group has evolved a new methodology for children's theatre which has its own grammar, design and content. Though the group has been doing children's theatre in Hindi and Dogri but all efforts will now be made to have a distinct identity of English theatre. Director made an appeal to the parents to come forward who are interested in enriching the lives of the children by cultivating their young minds through theatre. Such programmes and projects needs the whole hearted support of the civil society and he expressed hope and faith in Jammuites that they will encourage this new endeavor the way they have been supporting the cause of Natrang. Incharge Children’s Weekend Club. Sumit Sharma also expressed his views on the new trends of theatre. Among others who were present on the occasion included Ashish Nijhawan from National School of Drama, Mohit Sharma, Rohit Verma, Gaurav Jamwal, Kamljeet Kaur and Aarushi Thakur.
