| Alleged Al-Qaeda CD surfaces in J&K | | |
SRINAGAR, JUNE 8 A compact disc allegedly circulated by international terror outfit Al-Qaeda has surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir and the top police brass today said its veracity was being verified. The CD was given to a local news agency here along with a statement purportedly issued by so-called chief of the banned outfit in India Abu Abdul Rehman Al-Ansari. Director General of J-K Police Gopal Sharma said that his department has taken cognizance of the surfacing of the CD and was in the process of verifying its authenticity. "We have come to know about the CD and are in the process of verifying its authenticity. It will be premature to make a comment at this moment," he said. The statement allegedly issued by Al-Ansari claimed that 1000 copies of it have been distributed in mosques across Kashmir valley. The 15-minute CD shows a masked man with an AK assault rifle reading out a statement in Urdu criticizing the role of certain separatist leaders whose photographs were also displayed, informed sources said. Photos of some Indian political leaders belonging to J-K have also been shown in the disc, they said. It was not clear whether the masked man was the so-called Al-Qaeda chief in India.
