Devender Padha Jammu | June 9 The self styled functioning of some of the private schools of Jammu region has put the question mark over the efficacy of government order to observe summer vacation as they continue to defy the order without any fear of the authorities. Almost ten days have passed since government directed the private schools to observe summer vacation, but students of all ages can be seen flocking to the schools though in a different manner, as per the direction of school managements. But, education authorities have so far reacted only like a paper tiger as they keep on issuing warning to the erring schools in spite of taking stern action against them. Meanwhile, acting under pressure CEO have issued notices to five of the erring school and said them to make replies within a period of two days. As per the school calendars, summer vacations are the integral part of the schedule and these fifty odd days of vacation period coincides with extreme hot weather conditions. The vacations are the opportunity for the young school goers to take a break from their year long academic exercise and to prepare well for the ensuing session, asserted an expert of school management. Depriving students of vacations is just like snatching their right thus, putting unnecessary pressure on the students. Such practice would likely to have psychological consequences on the tender minds of school students, he further added. It is to mention that CBSE affiliated schools in Jammu region had already gone on summer vacation from the second fortnight of the last month following which state Government had directed private schools of the region to observe summer vacation from the first of this month. But, school administrations instead of complying with the order of the state government, trying to act like autonomous institutions. According to sources, education authorities were hesitating to initiate action against the erring schools due to their links with influential peoples. We issued instructions to the school administrations to observe the order but, instead of complying with the order they used to threaten us of consequences owing to their links with influential people, told an official of CEO office on the condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, acting a bit late, CEO Jammu on the direction of Incharge Director Schools have issued notices to five private schools for the defiance of the order to observe vacations from June 1 and asked to make reply within a period of two days. When contacted, AK Raina, Incharge Director Schools Jammu confirmed the report and assured of stern action against the erring schools as per the provisions.
