| Sakina accuses coalition for denying ST community its due | | |
Srinagar, June 9:
Member Legislative Council and senior National Conference Leader, Sakina Itoo has accused coalition Government of taking away the facilities being provided to Gujjar and Bakarwal communities.
Addressing a public gathering at Nandi Marag Yarikhah area of Damhal Hanjipora, Sakina Itoo said that despite extending further facilities to the down trodden Gujjar and Bakarwal population, they have been devoid of even those provided to them by the earlier governments.
Making a dig on coalition, she said these communities feel pushed to the wall as most of their pasture lands have been snatched by the government. She said notwithstanding the provisos made by previous regimes, the coalition has gradually stopped all relaxations provided to the community under these provisions.
Referring to the recruitments being made under Rahbar-e-Taleem and other similar schemes, she said the community is being totally avoided engagement under these schemes.
She said while, NC had made elaborate provisions to extend all basic facilities suiting their way of life, today neither their children are able to get education nor they are getting medical or other facilities.
Most of the mobile schools and dispensaries have been closed down; she said adding that the plight of Gujjars and Bakarwals could be gauged by the fact that most of them are quitting their traditional profession of cattle rearing
