Police today claimed to have recovered 90 Kilogram of poppy straw (Bhuuki) from a truck, on its way from Srinagar to Jammu, and arrested its driver near here, this morning.
Naka party of Batote police in its routine checking intercepted a truck (5075/JK02C) at Bhagunalla, official sources said. However, when the truck driver was asked to step down, he fled away with the vehicle, they added.
Police party swung into action and chased the truck which was stopped at Amar Chesma on National Highway.
"On checking 90 kgs poppy straw was recovered from the truck", Sat Pal Modi, Station House Officer Batote said adding that the driver, identified as Hardev Singh son of Sangat Singh resident of Gadi Udhampur was arrested and booked vide FIR No 74/07 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act.
