| Chemists and Druggist concerned over the swelling temperature | | Photo and thermo-sensitive drugs may get damaged with a break of cold chain | | Jammu June 11 Ongoing heat wave has not only caused concerns to the common people due to the shooting mercury but this has also created a panic among the chemists and druggist including the wholesale dealers in medicines about the maintenance of the cold chain for these drugs. Ongoing heat wave with unscheduled power curtailments has created apprehensions among the people and the medicine dealers. While the people are worried about the heat and are looking desperately for the water and the power supply to feel a breather in this hot but the medicine dealers are worried about the damage of the photo-thermal sensitive medicines. Majority of chemist felt that though they had installed refrigerators in their establishments under the mandatory norms set by the Controller of Drugs, yet it will not relieve them of their worries. ‘The life saving drugs and other medicines like anti rabies and other drugs sensitive to the temperature are often kept in these refrigerators but other drugs sensitive to the temperature and light including ophthalmologic-ENT and dermatology drugs like drops and ointments may are often kept open in racks may face some damages, said Owner of Bharat Chemist having his outlet at Bakshi Nagar near GMC Jammu. Though majority of chemist have managed additional refrigerators to handle the crisis but the rising mercury will make situation worse for the medicine dealers, said another chemist at Shalamar Road. The chemists and druggists claim though at present no damage have been reported as the temperature if rises at noon hours, it slides down during the evenings proportionally giving a soother to the dealers, some added. But all seemed worried if the things continue for more days in the similar manner the unscheduled power cuts may pose a major threat to maintain the vital cold chain for the life saving drugs and other thermo sensitive drugs. However the chemist and druggists are also of the opinion this would not last long and the days will be lesser hot after the June 21- the summer solstice- witnessing the hottest day of the year.
