Early Times Report

Rajouri, Mar 10: Irked over dilapidated condition of roads in Budhal and Kotranka of Rajouri district locals today staged day long protests against authorities of the Border Road Organization (BRO) for 'failing' to deliver on their promises.
On Tuesday the inhabitants of the Kotranka Sub-Division along with shopkeepers held a mass protest at Kotranka town and blocked Rajouri-Budhal road and requested Sub Divisional Magistrate to intervene in this matter. Protestors said that they have been holding protest demonstrations for the last more than one year demanding that the link road from Rajouri to Budhal (joining Reasi district) is in worst condition and it should be repaired/constructed duly as the people are at losers' end.
"The work of upgradation black topping of this road stretch about 60 kilometers, was handed over to the Border Road Organization (BRO) in 2011, the protesters said adding, "for the last four year 110 Company of BRTF, based at Budhal has started the construction work but most of the road was left in dilapidated condition after widening and earth work and incessant rains in the month of September and in the first week of March have created havoc for the commuters.
"The matter was several times taken up with the concerned GREF officials stationed at Budhal , but no official bothered to look into the problems of the common man.
Sukhdev Singh, SDM, Kotranka after verification of complaints of many Sarpanches, prominent citizens of the area and on spot visit he had issued a show cause notice to the in-charge 110 Road Construction Coy (GREF) stationed at Budhal to appear before him.
He added BSNL and PHE officials too have been complaining for the last many months that they are finding very difficult to continue their services smoothly as most of the times the machine pressed in for the repairing/widening of the road have been damaging OFC cables and PHE pipes. SDM has assured the protesters that soon the matter will be taken up with the higher GREF authorities after their response to Show Cause notice.
