BJP seeks special package for VDCs, SPOs Likely to be absorbed on CRPF, BSF pattern 3/14/2015 11:26:31 PM Asif Iqbal Naik Jammu, Mar 14 : Amid high tension and political drama in the state, the BJP sought a special package for state from Union Home Ministry under militancy effected state quota and for the VDCs, & SPOs. After his return from Delhi, Minister of State for Revenue, Roads and Building Sunil Kumar Sharma told Early Times that he on behalf of his party raised various state related matters with the Home Minister, Rajnath and demanded special package under militancy affected state quota for development of rural areas of the state who lacks far behind in the development since last 25 year militancy which include the areas got affected due to Pakistani shelling on LOC and IB. He said that the issue of strengthening of Village Defense Committees (VDCs) and Special Police Officers (SPOs) has also been discussed with the Home Minister, adding that he had mooted a proposal to absorb VDCs and SPOs under central government act on the pattern of CRPF, BSF, Army and other forces and to be named as Doda scouts. He said that onetime bonus for over aged and medically unfit SPOs and VDCs has also been demanded from the Union Home Minister. He said that there is a need to address the problems of SPOs and VDCs with immediate effect on humanitarian grounds. Kumar added that he had also sought special package for the families of SPOs and VDCs who scarified their lives in various counter insurgency operations. He said that Union Home Minister assured him all possible help to the state government and assured that the suggestions and issued raised by him will be taken into consideration. He said that Union Home Minister issued him necessary directions in this regard and to the concern quarters and asked him to prepare and submit a detail plan to his ministry through state government with regard to various developmental projects for militancy affected areas of the state. He said that Rajnath Singh assured him that the wages of SPO's and VDC's will be enhanced shortly and possible the matter will be discussed in next union cabinet meeting. Sharma said that he also called on Rural Development Minister Birinder Singh and demanded liberal funding to the state under MGNREGA, beside under various developmental schemes run by RDD department. He said that union RDD minister also assured him all possible help for the state under his ministry.
