Good News: It may rain!
6/12/2007 1:12:31 AM

Jammu, June 11: If you thought that today temperature surpassed two-decade record of highest mercury jump in the city, then you were probably wrong. It was the humidity in the atmosphere which made life difficult in the town.
After a sweltering and scorching day there is some good news at last. If the weatherman is to be believed there may be some showers in next 24 hours. The Met officials, according to the satellite images, have predicted brief showers in a day’s time. If proved true, this may bring some respite from the hostile weather.
According to the Meteorological Department reading, the temperature in Jammu city today registered a significant decline over the previous day’s recording of above 46 degrees. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was highest in last two decades.
Though today’s highest temperature was recorded at 42.3 degrees –almost four degrees less than the previous day’s –but the weather was little more hostile throughout the day. In fact, it was relative humidity which played the spoilsport. The humidity in air was today recorded at 53 per cent.
Interestingly, the mercury is registering a sudden rise in Kashmir Valley –something very abrupt and unforeseen this season. Till last week there was a chill wave in Kashmir and the people had to opt for the woollens for a brief while. This happened after rainfall early this month.
However, much to the chagrin of the visiting tourists who have been coming to Kashmir to beat the heat, the temperature in the Valley is soaring. Today’s maximum temperature in Kashmir was recorded at 34.5 degrees even though the last night’s minimum was at 15.1 degrees.
