| Bear kills one injures three others in South Kashmir | | Residents stage protest against Wild Life Department | | SRINAGAR , AUGUST 09,: One person was killed and three others were critically injured, when bears attacked them at two separate places in Tral and Manzgham area’s of South Kashmir on Wednesday. After these incidents people took to the roads and staged demonstrations against the wild life department, accusing them (department) of negligence. According to the reports reaching here, one person identified as Abdul Lateef Che-chi of Ashnoor Kulgam was killed when a bear attacked him at Manzgham in Kulgam Area of Anathnag, constituency of agriculture minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, around 12 noon Wednesday. Sources said that barely ten minutes later one more passerby, Bashir Ahmad Didar was attacked by the same bear, Didar was injured critically in the attack. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors attending upon him termed his condition to be critical.
After these incidents, residents assembled in the area and rushed to the site carrying sticks with them. Eyewitnesses said that these men tried to kill this man eater bear, however bear managed to escape via forest. Later scores of people took to roads and staged protest demonstrations against the Wild life authorities blaming them of negligence in executing their duty. Protesters said that they had already expressed apprehensions that the wild animal might kill someone in the densely populated area.
“The animal was on prowl for last few days and the people here including shopkeepers returned home early fearing attack from the wild animal,” one of the protester told kpsnews.com. He further said that inhabitants had informed the wild life authorities but according to him they did not pay any heed towards the complaint of the residents.
In other incident at Barunpatri Nagbal Tral, a man eater bear attacked and critically injured two persons identified as Ali Mohammad Chopan son of Abdul Samad Chopan of Wagund Tral and Abdul Gaffar Gujar on Wednesday morning. Bear ate right hand of the Abdul Gaffar. Duo were rushed to the hospital, from where both of them were referred to the SKIMS for specialized treatment. In Tral also people took to the roads for expressing their resentment against the wild life department.
