| Home Ministry team visit today to review security situation | | | Jammu, June 12 A high level team of Union Home Ministry, led by the Home Secretary, Mr Madhukar Gupta, is scheduled to visit Srinagar on Wednesday for reviewing the latest security scenario in the border state. The Union Home secretary will call on the Chief Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad and Governor, Mr S.K.Sinha,where the team will exchange notes on the situation in the light of the demand from the PDP leadership for withdrawal of the troops from within the civilian areas. The central team will first discuss various aspects of the situation with senior functionaries of the police, paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies. Official sources said that on his maiden visit to Srinagar, after taking over as Union Home Secretary in March 2007,Mr Gupta would also review the situation related to the level of infiltration. According to reports from the intelligence agencies the rate of ingress had again dropped. The reports said that in the month of May the level of infiltration from across the border had gone up despite the success achieved by troops in foiling eight to 10 infiltration bids in that month. Since the beginning of May the level of ingress had come down and rough estimates indicate that during the last 40 days not more than 30 militants were able to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir, majority of them from across Kupwara sector. The Union Home Ministry team will also discuss with the local officers and the Amarnath Shrine Board authorities measures that had been taken to ensure incident free two-month long Amarnath yatra beginning from June 30.
