| CITU flays Indo-US Nuclear Pact | | |
Jammu June 13 Commenting on the three year’s UPA rule at the Centre, Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) today accused the government of its failure in all fronts. Comrade M K Pandhe National president CITU criticized the Indo-US Nuclear Pact and said that India’s subservience to United States Imperialism cannot be accepted by people of India. Addressing a press conference here today, National president CITU, Pandhe said, “the left parties supported this government on the basis of National Common Minimum Programme but it is highly regrettable that the UPA Government has not implemented the programme in its true spirit.’ ‘As a result the price of essential commodities have increased substantially making the livelihood of people more difficult, public distribution system has collapsed making supply of essential commodities difficult’, he said. Replying to a question about the privatization, Pandhe said that the privatization is helping the capitalist to garner huge money at the cost of common people of India. ‘The promise of 33 percent reservation for workers has not been implemented yet. ‘The foreign investment in retail trade will throw out small traders from streets and thus must be opposed’, he added. ‘The share markets are prospering, profits of capitalists are increasing but the living conditions of the working class are deteriorating. The interest rate of provident fund is reduced from 12 to 8% making the retired life of workers more difficult, he said. He ridiculed that the interest rate is lower; perquisite tax on workers is further making their livelihood more difficult. Criticizing the SEZs (Special Economic Zones) that are coming up in India where no tax will be paid by industrialists, CITU National president expressed fears about better prospects of the labourer class in the absence of labour laws in these SEZs. ‘The trade unionists have to oppose these anti poor measures, he asked the members present in this conference. Others who addressed this conference were Nirdosh Uppal joint secretary CITU, Om Prakash Sanyal, Rajinder Singh Divisional NZIEA, Pawan Gupta and Ramesh Chand Joint secretary NZIEA.
