| Jammu to continue as base camp for Amarnath pilgrimage: Sinha | | | JAMMU, JUNE 13 (INFO)- Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K Sinha today announced that Jammu will continue to be the base camp for this year’s Amarnath pilgrimage with Baltal and Pahalgam as forward bases. Reviewing the yatra arrangements with divisional administration here this afternoon, the Governor said that collective efforts should be made for extending facilities to the pilgrims at the base and forward base camps. After conducting extensive tour of the forward base camps at Baltal and Pahalgam besides track clearance from the Holy cave to Baltal and Pahalgam to Chandanwari last week, the Governor today went round the newly identified site for the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The camp is proposed to be developed on 40 kanals of land which is protected by bunds. The Tourism department has identified another 400 kanals of adjacent land which may require raising of bunds in view of the area being flood-prove. The Governor, who is also Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) said that the Board will erect some shelter-sheds and environment friendly prefabricated toilets and baths at the proposed site. He said that Geeta Bhawan, in the heart of temple city will also be utilized for supplementing the lodging of pilgrims. The free langers also stand registered with SASB.
