| Books released, miniature statues unveiled | | Kashmir, Jammu kept atop flag of amity during testing times: Governor | | JAMMU, JUNE 13- Paying tributes to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for maintaining exemplary amity during most testing times of the recent history, Governor Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha today said that if Kashmir emerged as the soothing oasis of harmony during horrendous communal holocaust of 1947, Jammu shined in 1990s by opening arms to migrants in the wake of terrorist violence. Releasing two books ‘Socio-Economic Unrest in Jammu and Kashmir’ and ‘Derailing of Youth from Mainstream: Causes and Remedies’ at a function at Raj Bhavan this evening, the Governor said that this rich ethos is the real strength of the State, which makes it unique in the country. The Governor said that Father of Nation had seen a ray of hope in Kashmir during partition when the people demonstrated unique bonds of brotherhood, amity and harmony. However, the people of both the communities suffered during partition holocaust in Rajouri and Arnia near R S Pura. ‘Agonizing scenes were galore in Rajouri when large number of human skeletons had been found in three pits’, he remembered. Dwelling on another book, the Governor said that the youth of a Nation are the great asset who can take it to glorious future. They owe great responsibility both to themselves and to the Nation. They have also to equip themselves to face all challenges to emerge successful in their chosen careers. At the same time they have also to contribute to the progress of the society and the Nation. ‘Youth comprise 40 per cent of population and is biggest demographic asset, which needs to be nurtured and encouraged to gain heights of excellence’, he added. Urging youth not to lose moorings embedded in India’s great culture and values while keeping pace with all the modern material progress, the Governor quoted Mahatma Gandhi saying ‘ I want to keep the windows of my mind open to winds from outside but always keep my feet firmly placed on my soil’. General Sinha congratulated the author for his works and said that he has done a yeoman’s service in compiling 30 articles written by eminent personalities from different walks of like, giving their views on causes and remedies for the youth getting derailed from the mainstream.
