| Leaning towards militancy has inscreased | | Govt. worried about spurt in Punjab terrorist activity | |
B L KAK NEW DELHI, June 14: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs confirms that fears of a revival of militancy in Punjab have begun to crop up. Militancy is gradually getting revived, with a spurt in terrorist propaganda material making its way discreetly across the Punjab. It is ominous when studied in the context of the renewed terrorist activity in the neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir State. The Home Ministry is also reported to have received information from Punjab about pro-Khalistan propaganda videos having been back in circulation. More importantly, websites like neverforget84.com and saintsoldier.net hosting speeches of Sikh militants have also been floated. This apart, reports of foreign funding are also doing the rounds in the intelligence circuit. Harnam Singh Bhinderwale, a dreaded militant in early 80s, believes that the root cause of the Khalistani movement has still not been tackled. He has placed himself on record as saying: “Why did Khalistan come into the minds of people? No one has tried to soothe the wounds amongst the Sikhs. Till today the matter remains the same". Punjab is one State where India had won its first war on terror. For now, experts believe these incidents and reports of resurgence are essentially stray instances. But, it is clear that though the incidents may be stray
