| Governor’s decision on yatra base camp hailed | | | Jammu, June 14 Several trade organisations connected with tourism and pilgrimage in Jammu have hailed the announcement by the state Governor Lt. Gen. (Rtd), S K Sinha, the ex officio chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board that Jammu will continue to be the base camp for Amarnath pilgrimage, both via Phalamgam and Baltal routes. A joint meeting of All Jammu Hotels and Loges Association, Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal, Jammu Tourist Trades Employee Federation and Shopkeeper Association General Bus Stand Jammu held here today under the Chairmanship of Inderjeet khajuria, highly welcomed the governor's visit today to the newly identified site of the base camp of Amarnath Yatra at Bhagwati Nagar Jammu, and his announcement that the base camp will be developed on 40 kanals of land at the site which is protected by the bunds. It also hailed the identification of another 400 kanals of land at the site by the tourism department, where bunds are proposed to be raised, to add to the premises for the base camp of the Amarnath Yatra. The announcement by the Chairman SASB that the board will erect some shelter sheds and environment friendly prefabricated toilets at the proposed site is a highly welcomed development, Mr. Khajuria said in the meeting. The tourism and pilgrimage related organisations, however, urged upon the shrine board to immediately take the work in hand and expedite the same to make the site available for the base camp of yatra from this year, which commences on June 30. The meeting while conveying thanks to the Governor also appreciated the role of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, P K Jain and the Director Tourism Ajay Khajuria in materialisation of their demand to have permanent base camp of Amarnath Yatra at Jammu. Mr. Ravi Mahajan, Chairman Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal welcomed the development of Shiv lingam this year assuming a very large size, which could attract a larger number of pilgrim to undertake the yatra. Sh. Inderjeet Khajuria urged upon the SASB to take effective steps to ensure non melting of snow lingam for a much longer period and through out two months of yatra. He suggested that without in any way touching or interfering with the natural formation of snow lingam scientific device should be adopted to ensure that the lingam doers not melt early. Sh. Kuldeep Vahi welcomed the announcement by the Governor that arrangements for free transport of Sandhus from Jammu to the cave shrine will continue as per the past practice, he also hailed assurance of foolproof security of the pilgrims. The others who were present in the meeting included Pawan Gupta, Gen Secretary AJHLA, Ashwani Sharma President Bus Stand Shopkeepers Association, M C Padha President Jammu Tourist Trades Employees Federation.
