| `PDP condemns desecration of Iraqi shrines' | | Muslims must pose joint front against divisive forces: Mehbooba | |
Mendhar, June 14 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti has asked the Muslim Ummah to pose a joint front against the forces trying to create conflict within the community for their vested interests. Addressing a public meeting at Mendhar in the border district of Poonch today, Mehbooba while strongly condemning the recent acts of desecration and damage of Muslim shrines and religious places at Baghdad and Samrah in Iraq, has termed it a diabolic conspiracy of the western powers to divide the Muslim Ummah. She said under a well-planned conspiracy first the holy shrine of Mir Sayeed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) was targeted and damaged in Baghdad and recently another holy shrine was desecrated at Samrah, evoking strong outrage among the Muslims across the world. She said having exceptional reverence and emotional attachment with Sayeed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), Kashmiris are especially and genuinely outraged over the terrible acts of highhandedness by the western powers. Urging the Muslim Ummah to remain extremely cautious of the divisive designs of their enemy, Mehbooba said her party shares the outrage over such criminal acts. She has expressed solidarity with the people of Iraq asking the Muslim Ummah to pose a joint front in condemning these incidents instead of falling into the deadly trap of their enemies. Admiring the people of Jammu & Kashmir for exhibiting highest values of harmony during most difficult times, Mehbooba said in the present trying circumstances also they could offer the best beacon light for their brethren across the globe. She said people from all the religions and ethnic groups have lived and preserved their traditional harmony in the State with great tolerance and perseverance, despite severe provocations from the disruptive elements. "This should be the guiding principle for the followers of all the religions across the globe," she said. Touching upon the local issues of the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, Mehbooba asked the Government to promote the area as an adventure tourism destination by developing the required infrastructure facilities there. She said besides speedy construction of Mughal Road, the Government must also extend and improve the communication facilities, including the mobile phone, in the area. She said in the name of hackneyed 'security risk' excuses, the Government can't deny the people of the area such facilities for long. "When our Government in 2003 asked for extension of the mobile facility to the State and round-the-clock opening of Jawahar Tunnel, similar doubts were expressed at that time also," she said and added that all that imaginary paranoia later proved to be a hoax. Senior PDP leaders Murtaza Khan, Rafiq Hussain Khan, Basharat Bukhari and Mansoor Hussain also addressed the meeting
