BJP plays refugee card, flays coalition for its failure
6/15/2007 12:05:07 AM

Jammu June 14
Jugal Kishore senior leader and member legislative assembly BJP today flayed the state government for not redressing the issues pertaining to the West Pakistan refugees and PoK refugees till date. Blaming upon the coalition not being serious over this issue BJP legislator said that All Parties Committee too failed to deliver rights to the PoK and West Pakistan Refugees.
Addressing a press conference here today at BJP Party Office, BJP legislator Jugal Kishore informed despite the submission of the a memorandum submitted to Convener All Parties Committee Mangat Ram Sharma Minister for Health and Medical Education demanding rights for the said exiled community. He said the memorandum clearly has mentioned the discrepancies in the Government Order No 1372-LD (PAB) of 2007 dated 24/05/2007. This order says that there was “consensus in the All Parties Meeting regarding the West Pakistan Refugees of 1947, but in fact the BJP believes it a distortion of fact. He said BJP, the BSP, Panthers Party and Jammu State Morcha had made fervent appeal to the effect that the Dalit Hindu Refugees from West Pakistan be granted all citizenship rights while none of the parties say anything about it. Jugal Kishore reiterated the party demand that PoK and West Pakistani refugees needs to be given all citizenship rights.
The BJP regards the constitution of Delimitation Commission as a constitutional requirement and stresses for taking into consideration the criteria as laid down by the said Act viz. voters, population, land area and nature of terrain of terrain and accessibility.
Referring to the increase of seats, Jugal Kishore advocated the party stand and said BJP is in opinion to get that Jammu be given at least 45 seats on the basis of voters/population and a minimum of 5 additional seats on the basis of land area and nature of terrain and accessibility and also demands at least 5 seats for the Refugees from PoK out of the 24 seats which stand earmarked for PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan and atleast 4 seats for internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus.
He added that BJP wants the State Government to rehabilitate in a suitable manner the displaced persons of 1965 and 1971 taking into account their specific needs. Replying to the question why BJP itself failed to get the same during NDA regime, he said during the NDA regime the state government failed to take the case of Refugees otherwise all human rights would have been transferred to the exiled community. He also cautioned the coalition if it continues to treat the people of Jammu region unfairly as before it would only be pushing the state towards trifurcation.
State senior vice president BJP and spokesperson of the party Prof Hari Om also flanked the BJP legislator during this press conference convened here at party office.
