| Madhav Lal takes over as DG IMPA | | Discusses training activities with faculty, officers | |
Srinagar, June 14 Mr. Madhav Lal, IAS took over as Director General, J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development here today. Immediately after taking over, Mr. Lal had an informal meeting with faculty and officers of the Institute and enquired about IMPA's activities. He was introduced to the faculty and officers by Joint Director IMPA, Khalid Bashir Ahmad who also gave a briefing about the training programmes of the Institute. Prof. G. M. Dar, Prof. S. N. Alam and Deputy Director IMPA, S. A. Fazili were also present. A '77 batch IAS officer, Mr. Lal is an outstanding bureaucrat who brings with him a varied experience in administration. He has held important assignments in J&K and the Central Government besides serving as Principal Officer, United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Kosovo. He was also Member (Finance & Administration) National Highway Authority of India. Among the important assignments earlier held by him in J&K are Principal Secretary, Power Development Department, Housing & Urban Development Department and Commissioner/Secretary, General Administration Department, Industries, Education, PWD and Labour & Employment. Academically a very bright person, Mr. Lal is a post graduate in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA and a Gold Medalist from Delhi University in Physics. Mr. Lal called upon the faculty and officers of IMPA to make the Institute a catalyst for ensuring Good Governance in J&K. He said the Institute has a well defined mandate to improve the quality of human resource in the State Government through training and research. He said there is a potential and need for making IMPA one of the premier training institutes of the country and all of us have to work together to achieve this objective. He said he will have meetings with individual faculty members to discuss the content of each training course being conducted by the Institute during the current year. The DG was informed that 132 training courses are being conducted during 2007-08 by J&K IMPA at its Main Campus in Srinagar and Regional Centre at Jammu. Of these, 20 training courses are sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. Besides, 27 research studies would be conducted by the faculty members this year relating to various topics pertaining to management and administration issues. He was informed that the IMPA is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year for which an elaborate programme is being chalked out
