Cooperative Societies have great business potential : Zargar.
25000 credit cards issued among farmers

“Cooperative Movement in India has changed the life of the people of the country and Maharastra, which remained pivot of the movement, emerged one of the successful states where gigantic business ventures are run by cooperative societies”. This was stated by the minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar, while speaking to the representatives of various cooperative societies of Maharastra at a valedictory function of 3-days Conference organized by Dhananjay Rao Institute of Cooperative Management. Nagpur held here today.
The Minister said that after independence state of Jammu and Kashmir also launched Cooperative Movement in the state and granting land to tiller was the out come of that movement. He said during the turmoil period the cooperative societies of the J&K received a set back, but with the changing security scenario and restoration of normalcy and peace, the things have definitely changed. He said government is trying best at every level to revive the defunct cooperative societies and make them business oriented and profitable. Mr. Zargar said that JAKFED would be revived and put on business track as it has great business potential in the State.
Referring the agriculture sector of the country, minister said that Central has proposed to allot Rs. 25 thousand crores, apart from the normal grants, to the states for the development of agriculture sector. He said once the funds are released to the states the position will change.
Mr. Zargar said for the benefit of farmers credit card scheme has been introduced to enable them to get the loans easily and in-time to avoid their exploitation. He said new methods have been introduced, so that farmers can get easily the credit card, adding that Agriculture and Cooperative should go hand in hand, so that marginal and medium farmers can get timely loans with out going through cumbersome formalities. Mr. Zargar informed that state exported fresh fruits for 19 crores and dry fruits for Rs. 300 crores last year. He said Cooperative Bank is the only bank, which is lending loans to the farmers easily. He said the situation has changed a lot in the J&K and participants should get the message of peace to their state, so that other people like to visit the State can come and take the bounty of the fascinating beauty of the valley.

Mr. Patil, an MP of Maharastra state, who was also participating in the conference, said that they had come here with some security apprehensions, but found things quite different in peaceful atmosphere. He appreciated the role of J&K Cooperatives for their endeavors they put forth in keeping alive the cooperative societies even in bad situations. Registrar Cooperatives, Dr.G.N.Qasba while giving details of the cooperative activities in the state, said that a number of defunct cooperative societies have been revived and made functional. He said at present 4 Agriculture and 3 Cooperative banks are working here. He informed that 25 thousand credit cards stands issued in favour of farmers. Mr. Qasba said the thrust is to build a full-fledged J&K Cooperative Bank in the state to meet the demands of the farmer community.
Minister also distributed certificates among those participants, who had done commendable business in their respective area of activity.
Mushtaq Ahmad, CAO of Cooperatives Department later presented vote of thanks. He suggested that such more conference should be organized in which representatives of local cooperative societies can participate and get the opportunity to exchange their ideas and policies with their counterparts of other
