| Court rejects bail application of gold smith in fake currency case | | | JAMMU JUNE 14- Duty Magistrate, Amit Gupta, today rejected the bail application of Sonu Verma a gold-smith r/o Gali Malhotrian Jammu involved in alleged 17 lakh fake currency notes case. According to the police report FIR for offence u/s 489-B RPC was registered in P/S Nagrota and during the investigation accused was arrested and on his disclosure nine currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, allegedly fake were recovered. The police report further reveals that the other two accused namely Showkat Ali and Shakeel Ahmed real brothers' r/o Mohalla Bawa Jeevan Shah Shidhi Chowk Jammu had given fake currency amounting to Rs 5.50 lakh to the accused for its circulation in Jammu market, and the accused is alleged to have circulated the said amount in Jammu. It has been clearly mentioned in the report that one of the accused Shakeel Ahmed is still absconding whereas accused Showkat Ali is lodged in the police custody. As per the prosecution, the allegations against the accused persons are that they received fake currency amounting to Rs 17 lakhs through two Koltata based persons, of which Rs.5.50 lakh was given to the accused Sonu Verma for circulation in Jammu. It has been further mentioned that the balance fake currency is yet to be recovered from the accused and the investigation is going on. The Duty Magistrate, after hearing both the sides, observed that in the present case as per CD file accused was arrested on June 9, 2007 and there is no doubt the allegations against the accused are grave in nature and the same carries punishment up to the life imprisonment. As per the police report the investigation is still going on as the statements of the witnesses are still being recorded, the recovery of balanced fake currency is to be affected and above all the main accused is yet to be arrested.
