DDC Kathua accused for sabotaging tourism promotion in Jammu region.
6/16/2007 12:20:51 AM

Jammu:
The tall claims made by the district arrangements about elaborate arrangements made for the Sarthal festival, first of its kind in the District, has evoked sharp criticism so much so the people after trekking last distances to witness the festival had to undergone numerous problems en route. They also criticized the dictatorial attitude of the District Commissioner Kathua and alleged that she was deliberately sabotaging the efforts of the government to promote tourism in Jammu region.
There is no denying the fact that thousands of people and youths of Nehru Yuva Kendra from 24 districts participated in the Sarthal festival where Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad laid the foundation stone of tourist reception center on June 7 last.
A maximum of the participants in the festival were from Bhadarwah especially the youth and ladies who participated in festival at their own. There was no arrangement from Government for visitors from the districts of Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar
Following adequate publicity for ensuring mass participation in the festival, the people from Bhaderwah, which is nearest to Sarthal, after bearing rigors of rough road and weather, crossed the Chattergala top, had to face a great trouble as they got stuck up the other side of the nallah and a message was flashed to the Deputy Commissioner Kathua on June 5 itself.
Those held up said that on reaching the spot DC Kathua ‘acted like a marshal administrator and asked the people with whose permission they had come to participate in the festival’ forgetting the publicity made inviting the public from every nook and corner. These remarks were recorded by the media persons also. These remarks of the DC irritated the holed up people and alleged that the concerned DC is a great hurdle in the promotion of tourism in Jammu region.
