| Forests fires great concern, should be controlled: Qazi | | | SRINAGAR, JUNE 15 Minister for Forests and Environment Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal has said that intermittent fires in forests are of great concern and a comprehensive mechanism is needed to be evolved to prevent such fire incidents to avoid heavy caused to forests losses every year. Chairing a meeting of officers of Forest Department here today, Qazi Afzal said that Jammu region is more prone to fire incidents than Kashmir region and asked the concerned to make the required strategy for saving the green wealth from such calamities. Qazi Afzal instructed Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to submit a detained project on fire control for the state to be taken up in the 11th plan meeting. The meeting was informed that this year there has been a gradual decrease in fire incidents because of control operations put in place. It was also said that range wise fire fighting units have been created to fight effectively the fire without loss of time. A Rs. 25 crore projected has been prepared under prevention, control and management of fires in Jammu region. Among others, Commissioner and Secretary, Forests Mr. Attal Dulloo, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Irshad Ahmed Khan, Director Forest Protection Force Mr. Vinod Ranjan, Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir Mr. Abdul Razak, Chief Conservator of Forests Jamm Mr. Abhai Kumar, Chief Wildlife Warden MR. A. K. Shrivastava, Managing Director State Forest Corporation Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Bhat, representatives of home department and other senior officers of forest department were present in the meeting.
