| Cop kills himself with service rifle inside police lines | | |

A police constable committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon inside the premises of district police lines on Friday evening.
According to police reports, Vinod Raj hailing from Kathua committed suicide inside police barrack in the premises of district police lines Jammu on Friday evening.
Folowing the incident panic gripped the police line area as loud gun shots were heard in the vicinity. Soon after the incident, the premises was declared out of bounds for visitors and even media was not alowed to enter the premises.Meanwhile several senior police officiers also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
"Vinod shot himself dead by pumping bullets in his mouth using his service rifle", a senior polcie official said confirming that Vinod died on the spot.
Sources said that Vinod was disturbed for quite some time and was remaining absent from the duty.An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause behind the provocative step.
Sources added that the deceased had heated arguments with Line Officer, last evening. He had recently joined back his services after spending few days on leave at his residence but the Line Officer was not allegedly showing him back on duty.
Police said that the exact cause of the suicide could be established only after the investigation.
This is the first such incident in Jammu city when a police constable has shot himself death. The cases of suicide in Jammu and Kashmir are usually seen in armed forces especially in army and job stress and denial of leave are said to be main causes behind the increasing number of such incidents among Indian soldiers.
