Fidayeen attack foiled, 2 Pakistani militants killed: Police
2 local trained militants among 4 apprehended

Srinagar, June 15
Police claimed to have foiled a fidayeen attack by killing two militants in the heart of Srinagar city, while two LeT militants and an Upper Ground Worker were apprehended by security forces during a special operation, this morning.

Official sources said that based on specific inputs police arrested a local militant who disclosed that fidayeens (members of suicide squad) have sneaked into Srinagar city "to carry out sensation attack". The arrested militant has been identified as Abu Faisal of Srinagar.

Giving details Superintendent of Police (operation), Mohammed Irshad told News Agency of Kashmir that acting upon an information police apprehended a local militant Abu Faisal from Srinagar city on Thursday. During interrogation, the apprehended militant disclosed that a suicide squad has sneaked into Srinagar city to carry out a sensation attack, the SP further said.

Police swung into action and special Nakas were laid in and outside the city and various suspected areas were put to comprehensive searches. He said that the cordon and search continued in Rajbagh-Nowgam area through out the night.

"At around 3 AM, this morning when a police party reached Gojbugh Nowgam, it came under fire from militants, who had taken shelter in a garden", the SP Said adding, in ensuing gun battle both the militants were neutralized but one wanted militant Obaid alias Shahid managed to flee from the spot.

Two AK rifles, two Pouches and five grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. The SP identified the slain militants as Abu Tufail and Abu Hafiz both residents of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, an official spokesman said that 21 Rashtriya Rifles apprehended two local trained militants of LeT. They have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Tantray son of Khaliq Tantray, Akther Rasool Tantray son of Ghulam Rasool of Darshipora Handwara. Besides this, army also apprehended an OWG of LeT Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Nabi, resident of Darshipora.

Two Hand grenades, Ten Detonators, and ½ Kgs explosive were recovered from the possession of the militants, he said
