| Vigilance raids residence of warden GB Hostel | | Rs 1,41000 net cash, Bank account and other property documents seized, locals allege political conspiracy | | Shafiq Mir Rajouri, June 16, 2007 In a dramatic move, the sleuths of state vigilance organisation (SVO) during their day long raid on the official residence of Warden Gujjar and Bakerwal hostel Rajouri have seized Rs 1, 41000 net cash and some documents pertaining to his properties including some bank pass books during the searches of his official residence on Saturday . The men of vigilance also conducted separate raids at the personal house of the said warden in his native village Plangarh in tehsil Thananamandi. Giving details sources said, a special team of vigilance led by Dy SP, M S Jamwal accompanied by a local Magistrate raided the official residence of warden Gujjar and Bakerwal hostel Rajouri on Saturday morning and took the custody of an amount of Rs 1,41000 net cash and some documents pertaining to his properties from a locker of his official residence. At the same time, the sources said, another team of the vigilance sleuths raided the personal house of the said warden in native village Plangarh in tehsil Thanamandi. Sources said the searches continued through out the day and were mainly focused on the properties owned by said warden. The vigilance team is also said to have seized the documents pertaining a new house purchased by the warden, Manzoor Hussain Gulshan few months back. While interacting with EARLY TIMES, vigilance team leader Dy SP, M S Jamwal said that they have seized some documents and net cash from the official residence of the warden. “We have a specific target to investigate the assets owned by warden Manzoor Hussain Gulshan disproportionate to his known source of income. We had received a specific complaint that the said government employee owns properties disproportionate to his known source of income. We have seized all the documents related to his properties and an investigation has been started”, said Dy SP Jamwal. However, warden Manzoor Hussain Gulshan denies the allegations saying that the money seized by the vigilance team belonged to hostel account and not his personal. “This amount was drawn from government treasury few days ago to make payments in the market from where the hostel requirements are purchased. We have already dispersed some of the amount to the shopkeepers and rest was being dispersed”, said Gulshan adding that the cash was kept at residence because there was no other safe place in the hostel. Moreover, Gulshan said that it was a fact that he has purchased a house few months back for which he had obtained loan from the different banks”, adding that he has handed over all the relevant documents of his properties to the vigilance team. Though the vigilance claim that the raid on the warden’s residence was a part of the anti corruption campaign launched by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, but the locals smell a political conspiracy hatched by some Gujjar leaders against the said warden. Justifying their view, some locals disclosed that few Gujjar leaders were not personally comfortable with the said warden as he had banned all political activities in the hostel since he took over the reign as warden few years back. They said since he disallowed some Gujjar leaders to carry political activities inside the hostel, they had started hatching conspiracies against him.
