J&K Issue: Centre harps the ‘old diplomatic tune’- situation tense but under control
After MoS Home Jaiswal; the Union Home Secretary says ‘things improved but challenges exist’

Jammu June 16
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir the union government can’t have a better diplomatic and brief reply – the situation has improved but challenges exist. People in the state are often left petrified for a moment whenever they hear such interpretations from top chairs, especially when the coalition is divided over the ‘troops cut issue.”
It is known fact to all that the Union Secretary (Home) during his visit to State on Thursday picking up the similar nodes like of his superior MoS Home Sriprakash Jaiswal has asserted that situation in Jammu and Kashmir has changed in the wake of ongoing peace process. He striking the decades old phrase ‘Situation tense, but under control’, stated that situation in State has improved but challenges still exist.
Union Secretary (Home) Madukar Gupta during his recent visit has lodged the people of State in a tight spot balancing over what the union government has in its mind over the sensitive issues like “troops cut in state, revocation of AFSPA and about much hyped Al Quaeda CD found in summer capital.
Worth to mention the brief but escaping replies from high chaired person like Madhukar Gupta who in a media interaction on June 14 observed that in his opinion the ‘situation has improved but challenged but challenges still exist. Further evading the direct reply about the troops cut/reduction of troops as was demanded by coalition partner PDP, he preferred to passed away diplomatically from this question by saying-it would not be appropriate for him to comment on this as a high powered committee constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was dealing with the issue.
All this has left people of state in a high and dry situation how come such fragile and weak statement at a crucial moment when Muftis are using a pressure tab upon the State and UPA coalition to concede to their demand of Reduction of troops. Dr Adarsh Bhargav said this is really confusing for the people and the Congress in the state as any polished or feeble voice over the situation in state would encourage the proponents of the ‘Reduction of Troops.’ Citing example on the same day the media reports stated Mehbooba Mufti emphasizing for the troop cut while on the other side lead was union secretary Gupta stated situation changed but challenges do exist. What sort of message impact these politicking will have in the state politics, perhaps the chairs at union government never had sought about, he said.
‘Instead of other developmental issues the Political parties are loggers head on the issue of Troops Cut and the Self Rule adding more worries to the common masses who are burdened with poor economy resultant to the over a decade turmoil, another irked youth said.
