| Perspective planning essential to harness tourism potential: Azad | | | Jammu, June 16 - Chief Minister. Ghulam Nabi Azad has asserted that perspective planning for harnessing tourism potential in various parts of the state is on the anvil which would help in creating avenues of employment and raising socio-economic status of the people. Azad was addressing a national level seminar on Prospects of sustainable development in education and tourism sectors in Chenab Basin: Vision 2020 organized by Jammu University (Bhadarwah Campus) at PG Degree College Bhadarwah last evening. Appreciating the efforts of the university, Chief Minister said that the seminars such as this, would provide the necessary input to work out modalities for identifying potential areas for promotion of tourism in Jammu division and other parts of the state. Emphasizing the importance of technical education, Azad called upon the youth to opt for professional and job-oriented courses. "Mere possession of academic degrees would serve no purpose as it is not possible for any government to provide jobs in government to all educated youth", he said and suggested that agriculture, horticulture and other allied sectors have enormous employment potential. He said the tourism potential of Doda district and other such areas of the state could not be exploited fully due to poor road connectivity and other infrastructure requirements. To ensure road network, a number of road projects have been taken in hand across the state including Doda district. He referred to important road projects being executed in Doda district including Kahra-Jai, Jai-Gandoh and double-laning of Bhadarwah-Pul Doda and Bhadarwah-Chamba roads. Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma speaking on the occasion lauded the organizers for holding the seminar. He said that efforts are on for dispersal of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims to Bhadarwah and other parts of the state to boost tourism. Vice Chancellor Jammu University Mr. Amitabh Mattoo described the seminar as a step forward in creating educational and tourism related awareness among the people of Chenab basin in particular. He said that university could play a greater role in dissemination of such awareness. He said that the seminar would go a long way in formulating policies for speedier development of Chenab basin. Among those who also expressed their views at the seminar included Prof. Jia Lal Kotwal, Prof. Rajiv Gupta, Prof. Kapil Kumar, Prof. Deepankar Gupta, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam and a number of experts from within and outside the state. A reputed journalist of the state S P Sahni presented a set of rare collection of photographs of historical importance to Azad on the occasion.
