Rain brings respite, mercury dips
6/17/2007 11:29:11 PM

Jammu | June 17
Finally the Jammuites reeling under the continued heat wave found a succor in the shape of heavy rains that lashed the winter capital on Sunday here today. Met-men predict thunder storm accompanied light showers even at Sunday night in Jammu and adjoining areas.
The people of Jammu thanked the ‘rain god’ for sending them a relief from sweltering heat after the mercury touched 46.4 degree mark on July 10.
The overcast sky since the morning gave respite to the people from ongoing heat wave.
Monday rains in fact gave a respite to Jammuties and the down pour forced the mercury to slide down considerably. Be it the pre- monsoon lashes or the local torrential rains, but the people were looking for it as the heat wave that unleashed its terror had restricted the movement of the people up to a marked point. Even the trading community was praying for a bit lowering of temperatures as the trading markets, whole sale or the retailers were facing slumps in general.
Parents were seen more worried for their wards who often have to go around outside in sizzling afternoons for their tuitions and other assignments. Student fraternity and the working class were seen complaining headaches and feeling fatigues but this dipping in mercury is looked as a boon to all those who were to move in open.
Met officials describing the drizzling as pre-monsoon shower predicted thunderstorm along with showers on Sunday night to give a respite to the Jammuites. “These rains are ‘welcome’ as these substantiate that the scheduled the monsoon would touch the region prior to schedule July 1.
