| Cricket Tournament begins at Mendhar | | |
Jammu | June 17 Cricket Tournament, under the aegis of Krishna Ghati Brigade, began at Mendhar in border district of Pooch today. The tournament has been organized by Barasingha Battalion. Twenty teams from Mendhar, Poonch and Sopranos are participating in the event. Brigadier Gurdeep Singh, Commander Krishna Ghati Brigade, inaugurated the tournament and also witnessed the first match played between Mendhar Cricket Club and Ari Cricket Club. Col Y S Ahlawat, Commanding officer of Barasingha Battalion stated that the 10 day- long tournament has been organized by the Army due to the popularity of the game in these areas and the enthusiastic response of the teams to an earlier tournament organized in May 2007. The final of the tournament is scheduled to be played on June 24.
