| Greater Kashmir invitational golf tournament 2007 concludes | | | Srinagar, June 17 -Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha said that the golf has assumed much popularity in the valley and has become a special annual feature. He said that not only locals but national and international golfers are attracted to events organized here. He said that the golf tournaments have also become a part of tourism related activity and added that the tourists visiting the valley show keen interest in playing in the picturesque golf courses in the valley. Gen. Sinha was addressing at the concluding function of the Greater Kashmir invitation of golf tournament 2007 here this morning. The tournament which was held at Royal Springs Golf Course was organized by Greater Kashmir publications group. The final of the tournament was won by Greater Kashmir team by 24 points defeating Chief Minister's team. Lauding the role of Greater Kashmir Group in organizing such activities, the Governor said that it has widened the scope of extra-curricular activities to organize sports events and other social activities. The Governor said that Greater Kashmir publications group has played a commendable role in promoting other sports activities including football and cricket. Greater Kashmir Group has not confined itself with journalism but has switched over to spread of education in the valley and carrying on other welfare programme, he added. Earlier, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad teed-off the tournament this morning. Later, the Governor gave away cup and trophy to winner and runner up teams. He also distributed mementoes among participants.
