| Belts back to suspend cops; Anara waits to tell her story | | | jammu, June 18: The controversial former beauty queen of the Capital City, Anara Gupta may have to wait for the official reply and judicial verdict for narrating her part of story but interestingly shortly ahead of scheduled release of the biographical film, the government has reinstated two Police Officers suspended for alleged dereliction of duties in her case. Deepak Slathia, a Superintendent of Police, then posted as SP City and Tanvir Jeelani, a DySP, then posted as SDPO Bakshi Nagar were placed under suspension in December, 2004, as newsmen managed to interview Anara while she was in lockup. These officers were suspended for allowing media persons access to Anara Gupta, who was then lodged in the Police Station, Women Cell. The government had constituted a committee under supervision of an IAS officer to look into the charges and the whole gamut of media access to the detained model. The committee, though took inordinately longer time, but exonerated these two Police Officers of the charges levelled against them. “These Police Officers were not found directly involved in allowing media to interview the detained girl, said sources quoting the report. The Financial Commissioner, Home Department, BR Kundal is learnt to have issued order today reinstating the suspended Police Officers. Meanwhile, the fate of beauty queen’s life-story-telling movies named after her as “Miss Anara” still hangs in balance. Anara’s film –claimed to be based on her real story in Police detention –was scheduled to be released in June 22. However, a petition is pending before the High Court seeking prohibition on screening of this movie.
