| Rainfall ‘exposes’ city roads | | |
Jammu, June 18: While generous rainfall over the weekend brought cheer to the winter capital with most people indulging in outdoor activities, a heavy downpour Sunday afternoon wasn't greeted with much joy. As the city received heavy rainfall in just two days, much more than it could have received in these days of June, the localities, streets and lanes faced waterlogging problems. "The weekend was just fantastic and I and my family went to India Gate to simply enjoy the weather out in the open. However, this morning I got terribly late for work thanks to the traffic jam and the water logging on the roads," said Arvind Sharma, who works with a telephone company. "The roads of Shastri Nagar and Chhani Himat got choked after half an hour of rain. And it has been raining intermittently for the past two days. We had to fold up our jeans till the knee level to walk across the road. A couple of cars were stranded but that is a normal sight during the rains," said Vicky Anand. The officials at the weather department say that the city could get some more rain this week. "The skies will remain partly cloudy over few days this week with rain or thundershowers some times this period. The maximum temperature will hover around 32 to 35 degree Celsius," said a weather official. While the city dwellers are relieved from the scorching sun, the dread of the water choked roads and the unbearable stink due to overflowing drains have become a sore point.
