Jammu, June 18: In a bizarre incident, a lower rung woman police official was arrested in Poonch district along with arms and ammunitions. Investigations revealed that she had deliver the consignment to some militants.
Reports said, Parveena Akhtar, working as Special Police Officer, was taken into custody by the troops when she was going to Poonch from Kerni last night, they said, adding some explosives material, one anti personnel mine, light emission diode and one nine volt battery have been recovered from her possession.
During interrogation, she told the police that the explosives was given by her two cousins - Akram and Wali Mohammad in Kerni, the sources said.
Both of them have also been apprehended by the troops at Poonch for further investigation, they said.
In a separate incident in Ramban district yesterday the army troops launched a search operation in the upper reaches of main town and recovered arms and ammunition.
Acting on a tip off, troops launched the search operation during which they had a brief encounter with the militants, sources said.
The militants managed to escape following the encounter but one universal machine gun, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) round, 400 rounds of AK ammunition, 20 rounds of SLR and one wireless set were recovered during the subsequent search operation, police said.
The search is on to nab the fleeing militants, they added.
Meanwhile, a cache of weapons including 10 Japanese pistols were seized from the two militants’ hideouts busted by the police today in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, the officials said.
Police recovered 10 Japanese psitols with magazine, 30 rounds of ammunition, one wireless set and an antenna today from the hideout in Kalar Katal area of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district, they said, adding no one has been arrested in this connection. Police busted another hideout in Phagla forest belt of Rajouri district today and recovered one AK rifle, 8 magazines, 124 rounds, 8 IED boxes, 8 remote control IEDs, 10 grenades, one antenna, one bayonet and one rucksack, they said.
