6/18/2007 11:27:24 PM

Jammu,June 18
Pilgrims to the historic shrine located inside
the Bahu Fort in Jammu feel the pinch of prolonged power cuts.Traders, who have set up their shops, selling cold drinks and other eatables besides Prasada and garments, are annoyed over five-hour power cut.
Ram Lal,who sells soft drinks, said “pilgrims wishing to quench their thirst and secure some relief from the scorching heat, feel dejected when they do not get icy cold soft drinks because the deep freezers remain off for these five hours.”He said “while the pilgrims feel discomfort we lose business.’ Roshan Lal another trader said “pilgrims whom we expect to buy several things from our shops avoid entering our
establishments where they feel uncomfortable in the absence of any power supply forcing us to be without fans.”
In variably pilgrims want to spend a couple of hours in the amusement park adjacent to the shrine. But they feel disappointed when the swings and other rides do not run on account of power shut down.
Some of pilgrims from outside the state in their cars said that “it is unfortunate that we have to pay Rs.10 on parking our cars in the parking zone.”They said since people come to offer prayers in the historic shrine parking should have been free.
One
pilgrims from Punjab said “I visited several shrines including ashrams built in the name of some Kashmiri saints and I was gald to see that while depositing our shoes we had not to pay anything. But we were dismayed when we saw each pilgrim to Bhave shrine asked to pay for each pair of shoes.” He said “I saw with my eyes families paying anything between Rs.five and Rs.20 depending on the number of shoes and chappals they deposit.”

Number of pilgrims interviewed by the KIP team said
there was need for shelter sheds in the sprawling lawns leading to the shrine.Atleast old pilgrims could take shelter in sizzling temperature and during the rainy season. They said apart from navratra festivals and Tuesdays, when Bhave temple attracts several thousand pilgrims a day, between 2000 and 3000 pilgrims visit the shrine daily. As such the offerings collected by the priests are huge and these priests should be persuaded to utilize part of these offerings on the development of facilities for the pilgrims.
