| Public grievance redressal darbar at Billawar | | | KATHUA, JUNE 18 To listen to the grievances of people at their doorsteps as desired by the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, an open camp of district administration was held at Government Degree College, Billawar the other day. District Development Commissioner, Kathua Ms. Sarita Chauhan presided. Among others, SE hydraulic, Kathua, SDM, Billawar, Mr. R.K. Razdan, Assistant Commissioner (Dev), Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Chief Education Officer, Mr. Arun Sharma, Executive Engineers of all engineering wings, other district officers, Principal Government Degree Collage Billawar, tehsil and block level officers with field functionaries were present on the occasion . People from all walks of life gathered in large number to narrate the problems before the open camp of the district administration in which as many as fifty applications were received and after studying the grievance minutely the DDC, forwarded these applications to the concerned district officers for early redressal. Some of the grievances were redressed on the spot. Most of the cases pertained to land disputes, poor power supply infrastructure, PHE, irrigation, Indra Awas Yojana, BPL list, road connectivity and lack of staff in education and health institutions. The roads which find mention during the discussion include road from main road Billawar to Ucha Pind, Billawar to Katli, Billawar to Machedi and Machedi to Badnota for which the forest department has not issued the clearance. The DDC instructed the DFO and the Ex.Ens PWD Basohli to jointly sort out the issue so that works on these roads could be started. The speakers expressed displeasure over the delay in the construction of the building of Degree College at Billawar which is functioning in a high school and only a few streams are there for which the DDC said that Rs. 1 crore is being released under the state plan and the work will take off soon. She asked the Principal to explore the possibility of more subjects in the ensuing session. The illegal encroachment in the town and its peripheries were also highlighted for which Mrs. Chauhan directed the concerned departments i.e. revenue and local bodies to identify such encroachment and vacate them under rule. Discrepancies in the distribution houses under Indira Awas Yojana and irregularity in issuing the BPL lists and demand for including their names in IAY and BPL categories were also raised. The DDC directed the concerned to take up the re-verification of BPL lists and include those who really deserve for the benefits under BPL. Ms. Chauhan exhorted upon the district officers to curb absenteeism in the field offices as pointed out by the people and streamline the function of ICDS and PDS by paying surprise visits
