| Congress alliance, NC responsible for WP refugees’ plight | | ‘BJP to fight for the cause of refugees’ | |
BJP has held the alliance partners including NC, CPI and CPI (M) squarely responsible for pushing the refugees from West Pakistan to the wall and compelling them to disrupt the PDP-organized rally at Jhiri the other day and asserted that the party would not accept anything short of full citizenship rights to the refugees. The BJP believes in communal harmony, Hindu-Muslim-Sikh unity, democracy and secularism. It hates the idea of hatred between man and man on the ground of caste and creed. At the same time, it is bitterly opposed to the state policy as adopted and rigorously implemented by the Congress-led ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir that makes humiliating distinctions between the Hindu refugees and the Muslim migrants from different parts of the world, a party statement said. The statement further said that BJP is of the considered view that the ruling coalition and the main opposition NC in the State are extremely sectarian in their approach to the human problem being faced by the Hindu refugees, predominantly Dalits, since 1947. The BJP denounces this communal approach of the state’s political elite towards these refugees and would like the state government and the NC to explain as to why the Urghur Muslims of Sinkiang (China) and Tibetan Muslims, who migrated to Kashmir to save their lives, were granted citizenship rights and rehabilitated in Srinagar in 1952 and 1958, respectively, as also why have they joined hands against the Dalit refugees from West Pakistan who crossed over to Jammu to save their lives and not treated at par with the referred to Muslim migrants from outside India? This clearly shows that the ruling coalition and the NC are communal to the core. The BJP has decided to make this discrimination against the Dalit refugees a big issue in order to expose the pseudo-secular parties, the statement added. Expressing its solidarity with the refugees from West Pakistan, PoK and of 1965 and 1971 the BJP pledges that it would not take rest till the time all their demands are conceded and will not accept anything short of full citizenship rights for the refugees from West Pakistan and adequate compensation for those from PoK. The BJP believes that each refugee family from PoK is entitled to compensation to the tune of over rupees five lakh. Similarly, the BJP wants permanent rehabilitation, coupled with due compensation, for the refugees of 1965 and 1971, the statement said.. As for the so-called decision of the JKNPP to withdraw support to the Congress-led coalition government in the state, less said the better. The BJP holds the JKNPP responsible for all the actions of the state coalition taken during the last four years and a half which have harmed the people of Jammu region and enabled Kashmir to further strengthen its grip over Jammu and Ladakh. The JKNPP is a party to all the anti-Jammu decisions. The BJP is of the firm view that the JKNPP chief, like the Jammu-based Congress leaders such as Mangat Ram Sharma, are the Kashmiri spokesmen in Jammu and Kashmir and that it is they who have harmed the cause of Jammu to the hilt. The BJP urges upon the people of Jammu province, irrespective of their political affiliations and religious beliefs, to make common cause with it so that all those who have been bartering away the interests of Jammu for the sake of personal power and profit are thoroughly exposed and sidelined, the statement further said.
