| Centre releases 5000 MT food grains to J&K under SGRY scheme | | |
JAMMU, June 20 The Union Ministry of Rural Development has approved the release of 1400 MT of Wheat and 3593 MT of Common Rice during the year 2007-08 to seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir state through Food Corporation of India depots in the State under the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) Scheme . Kathua district will get 385 MTs of Wheat and 324 MTs of Common Rice while Udhampur will get 506 MTs of Wheat and 436 MTs of Common Rice. District Rajouri will get 437 MTs of Wheat and 380 MTs of Common Rice. In Kashmir Division, Srinagar district will get 33 MTs of Wheat and 538 MTs of Common Rice. Similarly the Budgam and Baramulla districts will get 592 MTs and 743 MTs of Common Rice respectively while Pulwama district will get 39 MTs of Wheat and 580 MTs of Common Rice. This grant is towards plan expenditure and will be utilized for approved items of works subject to the conditions laid down in the SGRY guidelines. During the current financial year, food-grains will be given to the labourers under SGRY at the rate of 3 Kg instead of 5 Kg per man day as part of wages. Centre has asked the State Governments to ensure timely payment of wages and adequate supply of food-grains. If the food grains are not available, wages should be paid in cash.
