| Security Forces pull up their socks ahead of Amarnath pilgrimage | | |
Jammu, June 20: Ahead of two month long Amar Nath yatra, scheduled to begin from 30th of this month, various security agencies responsible for ensuring incident free yatra, are pulling their socks to finalize the security deployment along the yatra route, base camp etc. One such preliminary exercise was conducted here today at the high level meeting of senior state police and para military officials. The meeting, chaired by officiating IG Jammu Dilbagh Singh, was also attended by senior CRPF functionaries and SSP Jammu Mukesh Singh and SSP Control Room Salim Baig During the meeting, the details of the deployment of police and paramilitary forces personnel were finalized. Official sources said that more than two dozen companies requisitioned by the state have already reached here and their duty roster was being prepared to ensure they reach their place of duty in time and take charge in and around their area of operation. “We are gearing up for the yatra and hope to finalize all the security related deployment at the end of this week, a senior police official, who attended the meeting, said without divulging the details. It may be mentioned that like previous years the pilgrims will leave for Pahalgam, the base camp, for the pilgrimage in a tight security cordon and will be escorted to the Banihal tunnel and from there pilgrims would be provided another escort. The drill, according to official sources will continue till the end of the pilgrimage on August 28.A senior police officer said that over 15000 security personnel would be deployed in 3-tier security grid to ensure incident free yatra. He said, besides strengthening the security grid on the route between Jammu and the holy cave, the mountain route between Baltal, in north Kashmir and the cave too would have adequate deployment of police and paramilitary forces. Additional security pickets were to be established at various sensitive spots right from Jammu to the cave. It was disclosed that several companies of Indian troops would be deployed in the hilly belt in and around the cave and on mountain slopes in the sensitive area between Udhampur, 66 kms east of Jammu and Banihal,200 kms from the states’ winter capital. Each pilgrim would be subjected to frisking at Pahalgam and Baltal so that none was able to sneak with the pilgrims for carrying out any subversive activities.
