| Raj Bhawan bids tearful adieu to Patil | | | Jaipur, June 21: Employees of Raj Bhavan Rajasthan here bade a tearful adieu to Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil Thursday amid hopes that she would soon become the country's first woman President. She was also offered a 'chunari' and garlanded by Raj Bhavan employees. "I was happy when I came to know the UPA has chosen me as its presidential candidate. But I will miss you all as you have always treated me like a member of this family and the state of Rajasthan," she said in her farewell address. Most employees were in crying and this soon became infectious with tears welling up in Patil's eyes too. Agencies reported Mathur told agencies they were "happy that she is going to contest the election for post of President. But, we are also sad as she is leaving us". "Patil left for New Delhi in a flight this morning," Raj Bhawan sources said. Only Raj Bhawan staff were present at the airport to see her off, the sources added. Meanwhile reports added that Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh has signed Patil's nomination papers of the UPA-Left Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil as a proposer. Singh signed the papers when Union Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi called on him at his residence on Thursday morning. After BSP supremo Mayawati, who signed a set of nomination papers of Patil on Wednesday, Singh is the next significant leader to have signed the papers, boosting the prospects of Patil. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi had earlier singed the nomination papers of Patil.
