Coalition government misusing funds for luxuries: NC
6/22/2007 12:46:38 AM

Srinagar, June 21: National Conference has taken serious note of the reports about huge money spent by the coalition government on the renovation of the residential houses of ministers and bureaucrats during last one year.
In a statement issued here today, the NC spokesman said that the coalition, by spending about Rs 20 crore on the beautification of the residential houses of ministers and bureaucrats has committed breach of trust with the people of the state.
He said it is very unfortunate that the ruling party is plundering the state exchequer for the luxuries at the time when state is already faced with pounding problems of unemployment and poor economic growth.
He said the money being received from the Centre for developing social infrastructure is being used by the politicians for increasing their own comfort level. While thousands of professional graduates have already taken to streets for being denied jobs, the ministers and bureaucrats are eating the very vitals of state resources to be used for raising the socio economic condition of the people, Spokesman added.
The National Conference spokesman warned that the day is not far away when these politicians would have to face the wrath of the people of the state. He said while people all over the state are suffering even for bare minimum needs of two meals a day and safe drinking water, the politicians in power are spending crores of rupees on their luxuries.
Making a dig at the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, NC spokesman said that his words do not match his action, adding " while Azad is repeatedly claiming of maintaining austerity in public spending , over Rs one crore has so far been spent on his official residence in Srinagar, which is likely to go further to several crores "
Regretting the hollow claims of maintaining transparency and accountability in public affairs, the spokesman said no matter if work on ambitious projects is abandoned for want of funds, but the Ministers should not feel any discomfort while living at their palatal houses.
