| Central Government official drowns in river Jhelum, another rescued | | | June 21: A senior Government of India official drowned in river Jhelum while another was rescued near Gangil Bridge at Mohra area of Uri in North Kashmir where they had gone to inspect the ongoing work of the Uri Power project, late last evening official sources said. The team of experts from Ministry of Information and Technology led by its Joint Director was on an official visit to Uri Civil-I to inspect the ongoing works of the project located at Gangil area in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. They have been identified as Arun Dhingra, Joint Director and Vinay Gupta senior scientist, who was rescued by troops. It was reliably learnt that a team of experts from Union Ministry of Information and Technology led by its Joint Director, Arun Dhingra had reached here yesterday along with his other three members and visited the project. “The team after finishing their official work went to Jhelum for photography and were trapped near the overflow out let of the canal at Boniyar last evening, police sources said. Two out of four drowned while two others managed to save themselves from drowning, sources said adding that joint Director Arun Dhingra and senior scientist Vinay Gupta drowned in the river while taking photographs. However, the army deployed there rescued the scientist but the body of Dhingra was not traced till late evening. It was only after continuous efforts of the Army that the body of Dhingra was fished out late last night, sources added. Sources said that body of the official was dispatched to Chandigarh after conducting postmortem adding the condition of another was stable. Police have registered and case and investigations were taken up.
