| Construction on Rs 10.cr Thallar Dam to start soon | | |
SRINAGAR, JUNE 21 - The execution of Thallar Dam envisaging to provide additional irrigation facility to 5591 acres of land in Shangus block of Anantnag district would be taken up this year at an estimated cost of Rs. 10.20 crore. This was stated at a meeting of senior engineers of JK PDC, Irrigation and Flood Control and Design Directorate chaired by Minister of State for Power and Health Peer Mohammad Hussain here today. Director Geology and Mining Mr. Parveez Malik was also present on the occasion. It was decided in the meeting that Civil Investigation and Designing Wing of State Power Development Corporation would carry out geo-technical studies for the Thallar Dam within next two months, after which construction of the Dam would start. The meeting was told that Aarpath nallah, a perennial stream shall be source of water for the proposed Thallar Dam with storage capacity of 720 acre feet. On completion, the Dam would provide assured irrigation to 8376 acres and 1858 acres in Kharief and Rabi season respectively besides creating additional irrigation potential for 5591 acres of fertile cultivable land in Breng area. Addressing the meeting, Peer Hussain stressed for complete synergy among the concerned departments so that project is completed within shortest possible time. He also directed for timely completion of requisite formalities to ensure early execution of the project, adding the prestigious project has already been approved in Board meeting of Anantnag last year. . .
